What is Reiki?

Although energy work and reiki is considered quiet popular many people still don’t know what it is…

The best way to understand it, is to have your own personal experience of it.

It’s like describing the sun to someone who has only ever lived in a cave. Words just won’t do it but take them out to the sunshine and there you have it – they feel that warmth and glow for themselves!

I could talk about reiki all day but it’s through having your own experience of it, that you will come to know it and yourself.

In very simple terms, reiki supports your body to come into harmony and balance with itself. Balance means different things at different times. If you are tired, you’ll feel re-energised. If you are anxious, you’ll feel peaceful. If you feel stressed, you’ll feel calmer. If you feel out of sorts, you’ll feel more like yourself. If you feel overwhelmed, you’ll discover a sense of peace within. If you feel ungrounded, you’ll feel centered.

Reiki can offer you so much more when you are open to it. It can deepen your connection to your innate healing power, increase your vitality, support your nervous system and advance your spiritual growth.

“I completed 6 sessions of Reiki with Roseleen just short over a month ago. Before I begin, I would like to clarify I was quite skeptical about complementary therapies previously. However, that skepticism has been well and truely lost!!!

How Reiki Treatments Can Support You

Reiki (Energy Healing) can be that help to make whatever you are going through easier, allowing you to feel and function better.

The ability to heal is a natural as the ability to breathe, and through reiki, a practitioner essentially guides the person to bring healing and balance back into their awareness.

It’s surprising how one hour of complete departure from the daily hustle and bustle, with no phones and no interruption can actually be like medicine to the body on all levels.

Reiki Principles

The aim of the reiki principles is to bring reiki awareness into everyday life. They are guidelines for Reiki Practitioners to use in their spiritual development.

I feel we could all benefit from reminding ourselves of the five principles.  The ‘Just for Today’ means being mindful, being in the moment, being aware of what is going on around you.  By being in the moment (this moment right now) you are invited to live in the present, which is the only time over which you have any control.

The past is gone and the future is just a thought away.  By living in the present you open yourself up to appreciating and truly experiencing whatever you are doing in that moment.

They are seen as the foundation of the system of reiki. They are deceptively simple yet can be hard to live on a day-to-day basis. Through reiki we move closer to experiencing more and more of these qualities in ourselves and in our life.

Meaning of Reiki

Reiki is often described as a Japanese form of stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.

For me, reiki is an energy of self empowerment, that helps to bring the body on all levels into balance and help us to (re)connect with our true nature.

Reiki is defined as:

Rei – spiritual or sacred

Ki – primal life energy/force of the Universe

Reiki Healing is based on three premises

  1. There is a universal life force energy that flows through all of life. It is the force that causes plants to grow, birds to fly, and each of us to take our next breath. There is no beginning or end to this energy; it is like an all encompassing ocean within which all of creation exists.
  2. Universal Energy can be accessed in a powerful and intentional way for the purpose of healing
  3. The body is programmed to heal itself.

Therefore reiki represents that spiritual source of the Universe.

Reiki activates and facilitates the body’s innate healing abilities, reminding the body in a gentle and loving way how to heal itself on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.

Reiki is simply the ‘laying’ of hands (non-intrusively) on or slightly above the body and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick, feel stress or unable to cope with challenges, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

It is this flow of energy which facilitates the unique ability of the body to heal itself. However, the great thing about reiki is that you do not have to be ill to experience the benefits of it.
